“I used to hurry a lot, I used to worry a lot, I used to stay out till the break of day. Oh, that didn’t get it, it was high time I quit it, I just couldn’t carry on that way. Who is gonna make it? We’ll find out in the long run. Well, we’re scared, but we ain’t shaking. We’re kind of bent, but we ain’t breaking. In the long run…oh I want to tell…It’s a long run.”
We may think we have reasons to hurry a lot or to worry a lot, but is there anything new under the sun? Our current circumstances are really nothing that we haven’t faced before, so be encouraged….things cycle!
“It’s a Long Run”
Some people are freaked put about market volatility. They may say, “I see the market dropped 500 points the other day and it’s dominating my thinking.” Well remember back on so called ‘Black Monday’ Oct. 19, 1987, the U.S. markets fell 500 points from approx. 2200 to 1700 in a single day. And yet here we are in 2022 with a Dow of well over 30,000. Be patient and tune out the noise.
“We’re kind of bent…but we ain’t breaking”
Others seemed to have their mental health seriously affected by politics or politicians, (even ones who are no longer in office). If your preferred party or policies have changed and it’s making you crazy, let go. Remember things cycle so don’t get all Whigged out, oops the Whig party doesn’t exist anymore!
Here the list of US presidents….they change. One of my favorite quotes from Mark Twain is, “Politicians, like diapers need to be changed and frequently – And for the same reason.”
“You know I don’t understand why you don’t teach yourself better…Do the crazy things that you do”
The other day my wife and I were watching some TV commercials for pharmaceutical cures for diseases we never knew existed. There seems to be always a fix in search of a disease.
If a person were to focus on these, it would result in hypochondria on steroids. Symptoms include: dizziness, diarrhea, suppressed immune systems, interrupted sleep, too much sleep, feeling suicidal, allergic reactions (some fatal have occurred), throat swelling, chills, fever, dry mouth, stomach ulcers, liver problems, and uncontrollable muscle or bowel movements….ouch.
Other side effects may include: kidney problems, genital yeast infections, binge shopping, changes in urination, and in extreme cases can lead to coma or death. Other than that, you’ll feel great. You might be dead, but hey your skin will look great!
“Ask your doctor if drug X is right for you!” (LMAO)
“People talking about us; they got nothing else to do…When it all comes down, we will still come through.”
Here are some tips I have learned to tune out the noise:
- Start each day with a personal time in prayer or meditation.
- Do not allow hurriedness to creep into your day as it breeds stress.
- Be in control of your email inbox.
- Limit time on social media.
- Go for a walk to get away from the noise.
- Turn off the radio when driving.
- Limit exposure to television news at home.
- Stand by the recycle bin and throw away junk mail.
- Schedule a day of reflection to renew and refresh yourself.
