It may be owning up to the realities of a troubled family of origin, the passing of a loved one unexpectedly, or a failed long term relationship. Sometimes life can be quite painful indeed.
The darkness lasts only as long as necessary to help us learn what we need to learn. It may have been challenging at the time, but here we are. It can be quite illuminating to step out of darkness into the light of understanding of the meaning one’s journey through life. That’s some “Good News” right there!
